My mission was so stupidly insane that in the past I would have tried to sneak off and do it in secret. Elyssa had just given me a verbal beat-down for my stunt in Pangea, and I didn't feel like going for a round two. Besides, if I couldn't convince Elyssa, my love and closest ally, that this mission was our only chance, then how could I expect to convince Olivia of anything?

Fjoeruss and Elyssa took a break from information sharing and planning when a gray man entered the room bearing food and drinks.

"Hamburgers!" Shelton rushed toward the grub at superhuman speed, cutting off Emily in his haste.

Emily could have yanked him back by his leather duster but seemed to admire his enthusiasm.

I skirted the commotion and took Elyssa's hand, kissed it, and led her to the opposite corner of the room.

She sighed. "You've got that look again. Somehow I feel like you want to do something even dumber than rushing into the fae fortress to take down the tyrannical queen without asking me first. "

"Bingo!" I snapped my fingers. "But I'm being a good boy and telling you about it before I rush off and do something rash."

Elyssa sighed. "At least you're trying, babe." She leaned against the wall. "Dish."

"Emily needs her powers if we stand a chance at this plan working. Eve is hell-bent on universal destruction and there's no one else we can even remotely trust to help us."

She raised an eyebrow. "But…"

"But maybe we can convince an enemy that it's in their best interests to help us." I paused to let that sink in, but Elyssa was already ahead of me.

"Olivia." She pursed her lips.

"It's crazy, I know, but hear me out." I'd compiled a short list of pros to make my case and shut down any counter arguments Elyssa made. Technically, my list of pros was only two bullet points long, and the second one was so bad it was almost a con.

Before I could list my pros, Elyssa spoke. "I think it's a good idea, Justin."

My mouth remained open for a good ten seconds while I processed her quick response. "Say what?"

Elyssa gently pushed up on my chin to close my mouth. "Emily told me how Olivia was churned through the foster system. How she was raised by some of the worst people imaginable, raped, nearly killed several times, but managed to live through it all. She's a survivor, plain and simple. If we tell her the collapse will destroy all life except the gods, then she might be willing to help us stop it so she can become one of the new gods."

I hadn't even considered that even though it should've been at the top of my list. "Uh, yeah. Your pros are better than mine."

"What were you going to say?" she asked.

I bit my bottom lip. "Well, it sounds kind of stupid now."

"Humor me."

"Uh, I'm super-fast so if she tried to kill me, I could run away."

Elyssa repressed a grin. "Uh-huh. And what else?"

I really didn't want to say it but did anyway.
